OBITUARY
June Brown Young
July 29, 1933 – January 24, 2023

June Brown Young, 89, of Midlothian, VA, peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 24, 2023, at St. Francis Medical Center, Midlothian, VA.
June was born on July 29, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA to Frank and Ruth (Miller) Brown. She graduated in 1951 from Washington Township High School. June received her Bachelor of Education degree from her beloved Waynesburg College in 1955 where she enjoyed being a part of the drama department. Later, she served for many years on the Board of Trustees of what became Waynesburg University.
June’s passion was teaching. She was a teacher in the Penn Hills School District where she taught 4th grade and later became a reading specialist before retiring in 1990. She was honored to be named Teacher of the Year in 1972.
Following Jesus and serving Him with her gifts and talents was always a part of her life. She was a true prayer warrior and lover of the Scriptures. June loved nothing more than to teach children about Jesus. She taught Sunday School throughout her life and will be remembered as “Miss June” by her students. Volunteering with Operation Christmas Child at Crestwood Church in Midlothian, VA brought her great joy.
June was a life-long learner who, after retirement, enjoyed sharing special programs at schools, churches, and retirement communities. You could find her dressed as Martha Washington sharing about Mount Vernon, or as an Egyptian woman teaching about all things Egypt, or as a favorite Bible character bringing their story alive. June also could not get enough of college basketball or cheering wildly for her favorite Pittsburgh teams - the Steelers and the Pirates.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Wilson G. Young, Jr., and her son, Paul B. MacDonald. June is survived by her daughter, Ellen (MacDonald) Shaffer and her husband, Gordon; Daughter-in-Law Lori MacDonald; Step-children Janet (Young) Ummer and her husband James; Bonnie (Young) Hanan; Patti (Young) Harmse and her husband Kobus; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren; loving cousins and numerous friends.
June will be greatly missed by family and friends who will cherish memories of her love of God, family, and serving people; her grateful and encouraging spirit; a beautiful smile and quick sense of humor; her boundless energy and love of life.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Haven at Brandermill Woods, for the loving care they provided for June over the last year.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 3:00pm at Crestwood Church, 1200 Charter Colony Parkway, Midlothian, VA 23114. There will be a time of visitation from 2-3pm and a reception following the service.
The service will be recorded and available for viewing Monday, January 30, 2023 at www.crestwoodrva.org.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Samaritan’s Purse - Operation Christmas Child.
