It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Gayle Anne Powell, who left this world on June 28, 2025, at the age of 78. Gayle was born on February 17, 1947, in Richmond, Virginia, where she lived most of her life, and was surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
Gayle was the cherished daughter of Joyce and Paul Gowen and sister of Donna Thomas and the late Linda Davis. She grew up in an environment that instilled in her the values of kindness and compassion, which she carried throughout her life. From a young age, Gayle demonstrated an unwavering love for her family and friends, a characteristic that defined her and left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
Gayle is survived by her life partner, Thomas Clapp who shared over 30 years together along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gayle was a proud mother of her three sons, David Curtis Powell who passed in 1981, Thomas Lee Powell Jr. and Paul Bernard Powell who continue to honor her memory. She loved them unconditionally, providing them with guidance, support, and encouragement throughout their lives. Her pride in her sons was evident, and she relished every moment spent with them.
Though known for her warm, generous and spunky spirit, Gayle's life was not defined by her roles as a partner or mother alone. She was a friend to many, and her ability to cultivate deep relationships was a gift that she shared freely, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her friends and family.
Gayle Anne Powell will be remembered not only for her loving heart but also for the light she brought into the lives of others. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Her memory will live on in the stories shared, the laughter echoed, and the love that continues to bind her family and friends together.
