Gary Harold Leader

Gary Harold Leader is best remembered for his dry sense of humor, making delicious, from scratch

cheesecakes, and a love of the outdoors. Gary was proud to have graduated from Norwich University in

Vermont with a degree in Civil Engineering. He grew up in New York State and spent most of his adult

life living and working in Richmond, Virginia. He was a good man.

After graduation for Norwich he served his Country as a First Lt in the 82nd Airborne attached to an

engineering Division. After discharge he continued his service as reservist in United States Army.

Gary spent his entire career doing civil engineering site development for a number of companies in the

Richmond area. He loved his job and was great at it!

In 1977 Gary met and married Genevra Baker Leader. While he never planned to have children, Gary

became an excellent stepfather to Rebecca Elizabeth Bowers and Christian Brewster Perry, Genevra's

children from a previous marriage. Gary had 5 grandchildren that he loved to bring Godiva Chocolate:

Brennan Grace Perry – 17, Taylor Faith Perry – 15, Landry Hope Perry - 13, Gunner Christian Perry -

13, and Dillon Brewster Perry – 13. His Children and Grandchildren loved him dearly for all the loving

care he gave them.

For fun Gary loved running and hiking. He was one of the original members of the “Richmond Road

Runner's Club.” He volunteered as a soccer coach in the Tuckahoe community of Richmond from the

late 1970s to the late 1980s. He enjoyed hiking the national parks especially the Appalachian Trail. The

mountains held a special place in Gary's heart. When not running or hiking, Gary spent his down time

watching (and re-watching) sitcom tv shows.

Gary’s family is happy that he is free from the binds of dementia brought on by Alzheimer’s. When his

ashes are spread over that “perfect spot” in the Blue Ridge Mountains he will be smiling down on us

under that silly mustache of his from somewhere in heaven.
