OBITUARY
Douglas Donald Gestwick
January 2, 1958 – May 24, 2023

The Reverend Douglas Donald Gestwick, 65, passed away on May 24, 2023 at his home in Chesterfield, Virginia after a remarkable seven year battle with cancer. Doug was surrounded by his wife and four children. Doug was born on January 2,1958 in Buffalo, NY to Donald and Darlene Gestwick. He graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a bachelor degree in business. He later attended Duke Divinity School and graduated with two masters degrees, one in divinity and another in theology. Doug worked as a United Methodist Clergy since 1988.
Doug was known for his unwavering strength and unconditional love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Doug was an avid hunter, lifelong Bills fan, skilled carpenter, world traveler, and published author of a motivating self help book about living with cancer, Do Whatever Is Next.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, The Reverend Clara Price Gestwick and four adult children Ryan (Marije), Taylor (Hannah), Brandon (Izzy), and Laura (Jason). Doug is also survived by his three siblings Denise (Rauni), Diane (Charlie), and Dan.
A funeral service will be held on May 27, 2023 at Chester United Methodist Church, 12132 Percival Street, Chester, Virginia 23831. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Church at Spring Forest or VCU’s Massey Cancer Center.
