David Alexander LONG Sr.

LONG, Sr., David Alexander, 80 of Chester, entered his Heavenly home on September 12, 2022. He was one of four children to Lauretta and Robert Andrew Long. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Long, and sisters, Virginia Clifton and Kristeen McLamb. He is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Beverly; children, Sharon Long Quigley and Christopher Long (Kelly); grandchildren, Victoria Koebel (Aaron), Kevin Quigley (Lily), Avery Long, and Bradley Long; and great-grandchildren, Emily and Luke Koebel. He was also loved by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He started his Private Investigative firm in 1964, working long and hard for almost 58 years. He was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Chester, VA, where he served as Property Director for 23+ years and initiated many enduring projects for the church and congregation. An active member of the community, he was also a member of the Chester Rotary and avid supporter of Boy Scout Troop 819, building the Messerly-Long Scout Lodge in 1979 where meetings are still held today. He greatly enjoyed fishing and camping, including scouting trips to local Camp T. Brady Saunders and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He was truly loved by his family and innumerable friends. A Service will be held on Saturday, October 15th at 11:00am at Grace Lutheran Church, 13028 Harrowgate Rd., Chester, VA 23831. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or Boy Scout Troop 819.
