Daisy Wolfenbarger (Peterson) was born May 18th, 1937 and raised on a small farm near Pueblo, CO. As a child of the depression, she and her two brothers lived a hardscrabble farm life with hard winters contrasted by beautiful views of the Colorado front range. Daisy owned a pet cow, wore dresses stitched together from feed sacks made by her mother, killed rattlesnakes with a hoe, and experienced a life few now experience. Despite this "simple" upbringing, she envisioned a life for herself far beyond the farm. She graduated from high school, and eventually moved to California to attend a secretary's college. During that time she met her husband, David Peterson, where they eventually married in Anaheim, CA.
Daisy's farmgirl roots stood in stark contrast to her interests, hobbies, and friendships. Daisy developed close friends in the Japanese-American community while in Anaheim, opening those farmgirl eyes to Japanese culture and food, and especially sushi which she insisted on having as frequently as she was able to get it. Travel was a big part of her life, often going to see family out west and beyond, including many visits to the paradise of Hawai'i where her husband was born and raised. She and David started motorcycling in the 1960's traveling and camping in the western United States with other motorcycling friends and family. When not exploring the world on two wheels, Daisy became a philatelist, where she collected stamps from the United States and around the world. She was an avid sports lover and big fan of UNC Tarheels basketball, LA Dodgers baseball, and a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers football teams. She and David were also dog lovers through and through, doting on many adoring boxers and Boston terriers throughout the years.
Underpinning her life values, Daisy rooted her life in her Christian faith, never having a Bible and its teachings far from her heart. Daisy and David moved from Anaheim, CA to Dallas, TX where her husband could attend Dallas Theological Seminary. Upon graduation, they settled in Greensboro, NC in the 1970's where Daisy worked as a secretary and David took a job with a Christian publishing company. It was there where she and her husband planted roots, giving birth to and raising their son, Kurt Peterson.
In the mid-1980's Daisy and her husband were struck with the entrepreneurial spirit and started a small printing business which they both co-owned and operated for many years. After their son left home, she and her husband rekindled their love for travel and motorcycling, owning Hondas and Harley-Davidsons that took them on group ride adventures with friends all over the United States and Hawai'i.
Daisy, being the tough farmgirl, was also a breast cancer survivor and carried her pink ribbon with pride. Daisy's husband passed away in 2012, and she eventually moved to Charlottesville, VA to be closer to her son, his wife, and her two grandchildren.
Daisy is survived by her son Kurt Peterson, stepson Gary Peterson, and stepdaughter Karen E Francis and 4 grandchildren.
Daisy went to be with her husband and our Lord on May 7th, 2025, where she and David are once again exploring paradise by motorcycle, wind in their hair, and smile upon their faces.
