Lewis was born in Richmond, VA in 1963, the son of the late Linwood L. Lauterbach Jr. and late Virginia Dare Chisholm Lauterbach. He attended Henrico High School and was a graduate of Fork Union Military Academy. He served his country in the 1111th United States Army Information Systems Engineering Command, and the 169th Signal Company.
Lewis acquired significant communications and security knowledge while enlisted and continued his education throughout his life, continuing his service to his country. He was deeply dedicated to his work. For the last 14 years, Lewis worked at the largest, award-winning, Defense Red Switch Network in the Department of Defense. Lewis’s expertise and dedication as a team member and shift supervisor led to the Pentagon Defense Red Switch Network being awarded the Department of Defense Information Network Outstanding Facility of the Year multiple times. Beyond his professional achievements, he valued the close relationships he built with his colleagues.
Lewis had a profound and unwavering love for God, living a life grounded in faith. He was a devoted member of Capital City Church in Alexandria, Virginia, until its closing, after which he joined National Community Church in Springfield, Virginia. His commitment to serving his churches was central to his life, and he cherished the fellowship and worship shared with his church families. He was known for his steady presence and kindness, and his absence is deeply felt by all who knew him.
He was known for his great love of movies, music and comedy, and valued his time with friends and family. He had a fantastic sense of humor that was enjoyed by many.
Lewis is survived by his sisters Christine Lauterbach Daniel, Lisa Lauterbach Allen (Clayton) and Ginger Lea Lauterbach; nieces Angela Marie Gregory, Jessica Michelle Herron and Kelley Pauline Daniel, and nephew John Michael Lamons, as well as great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his half-sister, Gail Lynn Lauterbach Herron.
