Charles Sidney Campbell, aged 84, of Herndon, VA, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2024. Born on August 1, 1940, in Danville, VA, he was the beloved son of the late Oscar Sidney Campbell and Ruby Wade Booth.
Charles was a true patriot, dedicating his life to serving his country. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1963, serving with distinction until 1967. A proud Vietnam War Veteran, Charles continued his commitment to public service as a US Postal Worker and later as a respected officer with the US Capitol Police. His career was marked by a steadfast dedication to duty and a profound sense of responsibility, which he carried into every aspect of his life.
Those who knew Charles remember him not only for his service but also for his keen sense of humor, generous spirit, and deep love for his family and friends. He was a man who could light up any room with his smile and had a unique ability to make everyone around him feel welcome and cherished. Despite his humble beginnings, Charles cultivated a deep appreciation for music, craftsmanship, and culture, which enriched his life and those around him.
Charles is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley Liu Campbell; his son, Charles Branscome Campbell; his daughter, Kimberley Liu Campbell; his sister, Judith Fay Kifer; and his beloved grandchildren, Cody and Samantha Campbell. His family was his greatest pride, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, honor, and acceptance that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
A service to celebrate Charles’s life will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, with the date and time to be announced.
