Allen Carter Tuttle, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on December 27, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on December 2, 1944, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, most of Allen's childhood was spent in Plattsburgh, New York, where he and his cherished siblings were raised by their devoted parents, Mary Emily Armstrong Tuttle and Dr. Frederick Burton Tuttle, who instilled in him a deep commitment to serving others. From then on, Allen’s life was marked by his dedication to family, service, and community.
Allen’s educational journey took him to the esteemed Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, where he studied political science, before embarking on a journey of distinguished military service from 1966-1971. As an Army Captain stationed in Vietnam and Japan, Allen exemplified strength and honor, earning two bronze stars among other commendations. It was after his service, upon moving to Falls Church, Virginia, that he would meet his beloved wife, Maria Shiebler Tuttle, in a serendipitous encounter that marked the beginning of 51 blissful years of marriage.
Finding a permanent home in Sterling, Virginia, Allen and Maria were blessed with two children. Allen was deeply involved in his daughters' school events. This involvement was a testament to his enduring commitment to his families’ passions and endeavors.
Professionally, Allen was devoted to helping countless families and businesses transition to new beginnings by rendering moving services. He spent 20 years working at Bekins Moving and Storage. After which, he concluded his career with Moving Masters Inc., dedicating over 25 years to the organization and leaving a lasting impression on both colleagues and clients.
Beyond his professional life, Allen found solace and fellowship at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, where he remained an active member for over 40 years. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, inspiring his daily actions and outlook on life.
Allen also joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1177 and became a member of the Honor Guard, participating in both community events and providing military honors for veteran funerals. During his time at Ashby Ponds, Allen was honored to meet many friends and was an active member of the Treasure Chest, Philanthropy, Garden Club, and American Legion.
Allen's commitment to his family was paramount. In addition to his wife Maria, Allen is survived by his daughters, Marikathryn Allen Tuttle Debnam (Mike) and Sarah Trahey Tuttle Thorn (John); by his granddaughters, Hannah Kaitlyn and Lauren Emily Debnam, and Paige Immaculata Thorn; his siblings, Rick Tuttle (Rebecca) and Margaret Tuttle Greenblatt (Michael), sister-in-law Marty Tuttle, sister-in-law Joanne Shiebler, and brother-in-law Austin Shiebler (Linda); three nieces and two nephews; and countless friends, all who will remember Allen for his kindness, humor, and unyielding support.
