Born on September 6, 1934, in Hickory, North Carolina, to his late parents, Clifford Gerald Moore and Charlotte (Lucille) Huffman Moore, Harold's journey was one of dedication, service, and love.
A graduate of Wake Forest University in 1956, Harold's sense of duty led him to serve as a second lieutenant in the United States Army during the late 1950s. He embodied loyalty and commitment throughout his career, spending 38 years with the J.C. Penney company in various management roles across North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Virginia. A pillar in his community, Harold was deeply involved with Lions International, Inc., contributing his time and efforts to multiple chapters over the years and earning recognition for his exemplary service.
Harold's devotion extended beyond his professional life. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Martha Overton Moore, and a dedicated father to his sons Mitchell Lee Moore (Mitch) and wife, Sharon, of Dayton, VA, and Harold Craig Moore (Craig) and wife, Catherine, of Richmond, VA. Harold was affectionately known as "Ganpa" to his six grandchildren: Virginia (Moore) Rose, Alan Moore, Rachel (Moore) Mosier, Kathleen (Elliott) Fleck, Thomas Moore, and Matthew Moore. He also had the joy of knowing three great-grandchildren: Thomas Rose III, Virginia Nell Fleck, and William Dean Fleck Jr. He shared a special bond with his dog, Camey.
He was a dedicated servant to his savior Jesus Christ and enjoyed Sunday School at Monument Heights Baptist Church where he fostered a special bond with his Sunday school teacher and associate pastor Jon Holste.
Harold enjoyed all sports with a special interest in football, basketball and golf. He also enjoyed fishing.
Harold was a kind and considerate person who always saw the best in everyone. His gentle nature and wise words will be remembered and cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date.
