Luther M. Senter, 87, died peacefully on September 5, 2024 after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease with Dementia. He was born in Norfolk, VA and raised in the close-knit community of Chic's Beach in VA Beach. He had a wonderful childhood there, swimming, boating and running with his brother, his friends and his dog, Mike.
He graduated in the first senior class of Princess Anne High School in1955 as the Senior Class President. As a Boy Scout, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
He graduated with a B.S. from Old Dominion University in 1959. He married his high school sweetheart, Donna Senter (Blankenship) later that summer and went on to teach middle school science for two years. In 1962, they went to University of GA , where Luther received an M.S. degree.
Luther joined the F.B.I. as a Special Agent in 1963, retiring after 31 years in 1994. Later in 1994, he joined the VA Department of Criminal Justice Services-Division of Forensic Science as a Forensic Scientist, retiring in 2002.
During his retirement, Luther enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandson-who all loved him dearly. He and Donna loved to spend time and travel with their many dear friends. Luther was known for his good humor, story-telling ability and relentless sweet tooth. He was a wise and wonderful man and he will be so dearly missed.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents William Edward and Edith Garrie Senter (Beale) and his brother, Edward Loy Senter. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Donna; his children, Susan Turner (David), Scott Senter (Sue Ann), Sheri Copeland (Kevin); his grandchildren Lindsey Tishman (Tim), Whitney Turner, Clayton Copeland; and his great grandson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 11, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephens UMC, 9203 Braddock Rd., Burke, VA 22015. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
