Carl Fredric Hoffman

Carl Frederic Hoffman, age 93, of Arlington, Virginia passed away August 27, 2024, at Virginia Hospital Center. After completing a degree in Linguistics, with a Minor in Latin at the University of Minnesota, Mr. Hoffman worked for the United States Information Agency in Washington D.C for 21 years, completing his work there as Director of the Foreign Press Center. After his retirement from USIA, Mr. Hoffman worked in sales at the Woodward and Lothrop department store and later, in the Language Lab at Northern Virginia Community College, Alexandria.

Mr. Hoffman was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church serving as President and Treasurer of the Church Council and was instrumental in the re-opening of Faith Lutheran Pre-School where his grandchildren later attended.

Mr. Hoffman was an enthusiastic member of Civitan International for over forty years, serving in many capacities including numerous stints as President of the Tysons Civitan Club. After retiring from NVCC, he served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and served as a Stephen Minister at the Virginia Hospital Center. He very strongly believed that no one should die alone, and his service in this ministry is a testament to that principle.

Mr. Hoffman was surrounded by and is survived by his wife Erna; son, John and wife Mary; daughter Patricia and fiancé Christian; Charles and wife Michele; grandchildren Kurt, Eric, Kylie and Benjamin.

Mr. Hoffman peacefully left this world with no regrets, leaving behind a life of duty and service for God , and for so many others. His mortal flame no longer burns, but the light of his life still shines brightly in those who knew, and loved him.

A service will be held Saturday, September 14th, 1PM at Faith Lutheran Church in Arlington. The family will receive visitors starting at 12PM. A reception will follow the service at 2PM.
